A Far Cry and A Long Way from the Usual Chatter

Whatever else their name refers to, hearing the young, Boston-based ensemble “A Far Cry” this weekend made a lot of ideas about classical music seem very distant. The sight of eighteen dedicated young musicians and the sound of their smart, passionate program was a long way from talk about esoteric or elderly music.

Some might say it was “a far cry” from all that talk!

For more about A Far Cry’s concert, please check out my (definitely pun-free, hopefully subtler) coverage in The Boston Musical Intelligencer. Incidentally, I didn’t get a chance to mention was the audience that day, which was literally ages eight to eighty! At least two bright-eyed, ears-open moppets in front of me were enjoying all the plainchant and postmodern klezmer. Some “dying” art form.
